My story is deeply rooted in my beginnings on a vibrant family farm. I was raised alongside seven siblings in a household where hard work and shared responsibilities were simply a way of life. Our farm was lively and bustling, with fields of tobacco, wheat, corn, and a variety of vegetables. The land surrounding our home was dotted with fruit trees, nut trees, and grapevines—many planted by my father and grandfather. Growing up in this environment taught me the importance of community, resilience, and gratitude. These qualities have shaped who I am today.
Life on the farm wasn’t just about tending to the crops. My siblings and I cared for the animals and participated in all the daily routines of running a farm. While it was a lot of work, it was also full of love, laughter, and a deep connection to nature. Those early experiences provided me with lessons I still carry with me and memories I hold close to my heart. They instilled in me a profound appreciation for my roots and the values that define me—values I hope to share with my readers.
As I grew older, my journey took an unexpected turn when I decided to pursue higher education. My initial plan was to work and support my children’s education, but life led me down a path I hadn’t anticipated. I enrolled at Jacksonville University, where I earned a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and a minor in Human Resources. That accomplishment wasn’t just a milestone for me—it became the foundation for my entrepreneurial aspirations.
My career began with the opening of my own business, where I combined my love for floral design and retail. I created a florist and consignment shop that reflected my creativity and dedication. Over time, I expanded my skills into wedding planning, designing intricate wedding cakes, and decorating event venues. This work wasn’t just a job for me; it was a way to bring joy to others and celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. For nearly 25 years, I poured my heart into this business, connecting with countless people along the way.
Despite the business demands, my greatest joy has always been my family. Raising my seven children has been the most rewarding part of my life. Balancing a busy career with motherhood wasn’t always easy, but it gave me the chance to pass down the same values I learned on the farm—love, responsibility, and the importance of working together. My children continue to inspire me and fill my days with warmth and pride.
Writing has been another chapter in my life that brings me immense fulfillment. Becoming an author has allowed me to share my thoughts, experiences, and creativity in ways I never imagined. For me, writing isn’t about checking something off a bucket list; it’s about connecting with readers and sharing the lessons and memories that have shaped my life. My books are an extension of who I am, and I hope they inspire others to reflect on their own journeys.
Looking ahead, I still have dreams I want to pursue. Traveling to Scotland and Ireland has long been on my list. These places call to me because of their rich history and natural beauty. I believe in continuing to explore the world, enriching my life with new experiences, and keeping my sense of wonder alive.
When I look back on my life, I see a journey shaped by hard work, family, and following my passions. From those early days on the farm to my years as a business owner and now as an author, I’ve embraced the challenges and joys of life with determination and grace. Through my writing, I hope to inspire others to cherish their roots, follow their dreams, and celebrate their unique paths.
Thank you for being part of my journey. I hope my stories resonate with you and encourage you to embrace every moment life offers.
